Sita-ji’s Movies
April 20, 2008 by sitaji
Mere naam is really Suzy, lekin mere blogwallah naam Sita-ji hai. Or is that blogwali, because I’m a larki?
Here’s my avatar:
Here’s a bit of how it all started:
“Mere naam Siti-ji hai, I mean my name is Suzy, and I’m a Bollyholic.”
I must add a key for the following items which I LOVE to see in these movies: drinking Johnnie Walker, and people getting slapped, or as they say in Bollywood movies, getting a “tight slap to the face!” It’s not that I ever want to see anyone hurt by a slap, but I admit the shock it causes adds an enjoyable level of drama to the Bollywood films. I’ve never seen such slapping in movies until I found Bollywood.

This is just a start and I’ll continue to update and better organize this page.

WOW, Sitaji (i.e., Suzy: and all this time I have this great fantasy that you’re actually Rani & Hema & Zeenat & Parveen all rolled into one babealicious Hindustani bari bari-aurat! Ah, the power of the mind!), I LOVE your site, and have just checked out your movie list: it’s going to take me awhile to get caught up with you, but I’m on my way, thanks to http://www.iTalkies.com! Tonight I just watched “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” and despite - or maybe because of - its very over-the-topness - I was completely engrossed! I think that Raj Kapoor was a genius and I so greatly appreciate his social commentaries…
Quick question: a couple of years ago I’d read somewhere that Amitji (countdown to the LA show of “Unforgettable”: I am SOOOOO exited!) was going to be doing a Hindi voiceover for “March of the Penguins”, but I haven’t seen it anywhere. Any clue? I loved what Morgan Freeman did, but can you imagine hearing that unmistakable baritone describing, “hindi mein”, the intimacies of those dear penguins?!
Thank you so much, Sitaji, for your enthusiasm, great sense of humor, and love of this genre that has completely overtaken my life! jen
jen! How sweet of you to make those very kind comments. We are lost together in the wonderful world of Bollywood.
Suzy, kaun hai?
Congratulations again on your Unforgettable Tour tickets, and it not having to be a career breaking event for you. I had not heard of Big B’s potential voice over for the March of the Penguins, but now the word is out so I hope someone checks in and I’ll keep my ears open too. That would be hilarious and beautiful at the same time. I have seen almost all of “Satyam Shivam Sundaram” online, but the site wouldn’t load the last part of the movie, so I’ll check that link you provided, thanks! I love how Sashi says, “I can’t stand any form of ugliness!” when he freaks out in the funhouse seeing his distorted image in the wacky mirror. You reminded me to finish that film. Zeenat was practically naked throughout that movie, LOL, poor thing couldn’t afford clothes. I look forward to seeing your movie list. I think there’s a blog out there with your name on it jen.
All the best!
Richard, that “Sita Sings the Blues” animation is great!
Namaste Vipul Kapadia and I’ll check out your site. Thanks!
Meri priy saheli Sitaji, et al, check this out:

Where to find Amitji’s version of this I’m not sure but I WILL be in India at the end of the year w/Global Exchange’s (www.globalexchange.org) Gandhian Legacy “Reality Tour”, so you can bet I’ll look for it then! More about that tour later!
And as far as “Nishabd” goes: I swear I’m not biased (really, truly I’m not!), but I thought that Amitabh’s performance in that film was stellar. I greatly appreciate the fact that he chose to do a part that was really complex and extremely unconventional, and, IMHO, brought out the extreme vulnerability, conflict, and heartbreak that someone in that character’s position would no doubt be experiencing. The actress who played the young woman was fine but I couldn’t stand her character, just so immature and bratty and self-centered and obnoxious. And aside from feeling a bit of motion sickness from the swoopiness of RGV’s camera angles, I was moved by the film. And I LOVED Amitabh’s rendition of “Rozana” (is there ANYTHING he could do that I wouldn’t like?!) (well, I thought that “Kyo? Ho Gaya Na” was pretty stupid!)
