Mind your cleavage

Khabie khabie a subtitle appears that is worthy of its very own post. I mean how many times have you thought someone was showing too much cleavage, but never thought of actually telling them, let alone in those words? I’ve thought,  Hey you should really cover up, damn! I’ve never said that out loud.  Now after seeing this, I may just have to say, Mind your cleavage, love, fear the world.

The song where I found this subtitle is called Apun Ko Bas,  picturized on Anil Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty from Rishtey (2002). I’m minding my cleavage since I fear the world, now you please go do the same.

And speaking of minding one’s cleavage, thanks to Richard at Dances on the Footpath for alerting me to this woman who needs to mind her cleavage and her mujra.

My filmi fotos of India. Part I.

I’m still working on uploading my photos from my recent trip to Mother India and I’ll post a link to them soon. In the meantime I’d like to share the filmi related photos from the trip. This first photo I’ve included here may not appear too filmi, yet it is and I’ll tell you why. Have you seen the classic film Deewaar? If so, wouldn’t you think of the wild factory fight scene from the film if you found yourself in any type of factory or warehouse in India? I know I did! In case you need to be reminded, here’s that scene:

Here I am touring Noni’s factory in Ludhiana. His favorite actor is Sunny Deol. Noni spoke of high thinking and simple living and did not attempt to fight me in the factory, which is always a possibility for any fan of Sunny Deol, who is really a fighter on screen. Instead of fighting, he was a very gracious host, yet after seeing so many fight scenes in factories in Bollywood films, I had to be prepared. I look all peaceful here, but if need be, I would have taken him down along with all the workers! Believe that! O.K, not really.

The Bollywood star who I saw the most on billboards during my trip was Abhishek Bachchan. He was advertising a cell phone company and these billboards were everywhere:

 Sometimes there were just billboards of Abi scowling, like this one. Grrrrrrrr:

Karisma (look hard and you can see her in the top left of the photo) and Kareena, were also being used to endorse beauty salons and crackers, as in the small explosive devices. Somehow I don’t think the Kapoor sisters were aware of their images being used here.

 

 

Finally, I found Shilpa Shetty selling Vodka. Isn’t that rather racy for India? From afar I thought it was an ad for perfume, or maybe some kind of energy drink, but closer inspection revealed it was for vodka! Can a nice Indian girl endorse liquor?

Bob Dylan does Bollywood? “I Want You” from Life…in a Metro (2007)

I love life with all its crazy twists and turns and surprises, just like Bollywood. And I love Life… in a Metro (2007). Within this movie there was such a surprise: hearing Minnesota’s own musical legend Bob Dylan. Minnesota is BFC headquarters, yet even sitting here in Minnesota I was blindsided by hearing Dylan in a Bollywood movie. At least it wasn’t him as a playback singer. Now THAT would really be wild! The scene with Dylan happened when Konkona Sen Sharma was at a pop (the Midwestern, Minnesotan term for “soda” or “cola”) machine. While she was trying to choose what drink to buy and day dreaming about a guy, the music in the background was Dylan’s “I Want You” so take a listen:

Did I ever dream of posting a Bob Dylan tune here? Never! Kabhie ne! But such is the unexpected beauty of life. But back to what I’m here for: Bollywood! Filmfare mania continued! I’ve already posted about the winners for best actress and best female playback singer for the 53rd Annual Filmfare Awards here. Life… in a Metro was such a great movie and nabbed both best supporting actor awards for Irfan Khan and Konkona Sen Sharma.

The cast was fantastic! It stars Shilpa Shetty, Kay Kay Menon, Konkona Sen Sharma, Sharman Joshi, Shiney Ahuja, Kangana Ranaut, Irfan Khan, and Dharmendra. It tells the tales of the individual and interrelated lives of seven people living in Mumbai. To find out a bit more go to the film’s website. Like I’ve said here before, I deal with the more superficial analysis of Bollywood films, so instead of a review, take in these nice images from the film:

While watching I finally figured out why Shilpa Shetty‘s looks confused me: She’s what a a child of Tabu + Jennifer Aniston would look like, right? Hain na?

I love Shiney Ahuja! We all know what this can really mean:

And this is precisely WHY one must be careful when offered a “cup of coffee,” since such a proposition can sometimes turn out like this:

Yes, I do love you too Shiney! But I also LOVE Irfan Khan! THIS is why he won the 53rd Annual Filmfare Award for best supporting actor:

I wasn’t going to add this video, because I don’t want to give Madonna any attention, but the Cheeni Kum style pony tail of Shahrukh Khan forced me to make the concession. I’m sorry to have to show you this, but you need to see it.

Halla Bol!

 

I saw Halla Bol this weekend and of course I don’t want to write a review, but do want to point out what I liked:

• The brooding, angry, simmering, seething Ajay Devgan. I couldn’t get enough!
• Pankaj Kapoor‘s character Siddhu. (Dosto, I didn’t know he was Shahid Kapoor‘s dad!)
• Darshan Jariwala’s character Gaekwad
• Ajay’s giant watch
• Giving a kidney to pay for a good lawyer
• Many angry mobs, so much to protest, and so often!
• Pool party den of sin scene, ala playboy mansion. Many goris around the pool representing decadence. Yaaro, it gives me hope that I could be an extra.
• Sikhs come out looking very cool throughout & ultra Sikh sword fight was great!
• Ajay’s (Sameer) room of awards and its destruction
• The The Big Lebowski moment
• Jackie Shroff’s special appearance, so commanding!
• Sridevi’s special appearance. She was so tentative. Come on Sridevi! Own it!
• Glimpses of Rishi Kapoor, Shilpa and Abhishek. Was Abhishek there in the awards show section, or did I imagine it?

I left the theater shouting “Halla Bol!”
