Today’s video is “Tadap Tadap” from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), but even better than this song is what happens just before it. This is such a wonderfully dramatic scene, and it’s what happens right before intermission, and the movie only get BETTER after this scene! How can anyone refuse the lure of Bollywood after seeing today’s clip? Watch how Nandini’s mom questions her about how far she’s gone with Sameer and just where he’s touched her and how she replies hysterically, “He has touched my soul. His eyes follow me everywhere. Don’t separate us! I won’t be able to live without him!”
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) is an Indian Bollywood film. It was released in the English-speaking world as Straight from the Heart. It was filmed throughout the Gujarat-Rajasthan border region, in addition to Budapest, Hungary, which was used to represent Italy. It stars Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Ajay Devgan and is centred around a love triangle. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was well received by most critics. However Aishwarya Rai was lavishly praised in her role which many critics considered to be sensitively played by the actress. The film also became a hit at the Indian box office but moreover in the foreign box office which was mostly credited to Aishwarya Rai’s box office draw among NRIs. As such the film is considered to be a breakthrough role for her not only winning her critical acclaim but also cementing her box office stature. (wikipedia)
The BFC blog has posted the song “Nimbooda” from the same movie, and now here’s “Tadap Tadap,” with music by Ismail Darbar, playback singers Kay Kay, and Dominique.
Thanks to toorad for fantastic the youtube video!

What an excellent song! Would you like to hear it again? Amul Star Voice of India’s contestant, Irfan does and excellent version of the same song.

East or West, Devgan is the BEST!
Yeah i can see why you didn’t like it at first. The first half is just filled with silly encounters with A.D.D Salman and wingy Aishwarya. But after that first hour it gets into some beautiful scenes and then culminates with the beauty of Tadap Tadap.
Tadap Tadap is up there in my top 3 most devastating songs (Hamesha Tumko Chahat from Devdas) also being a big one.
I think your lucky that you started to go for Ajay in the second half. My friend and I both watched HDDCS (at different times) and we both were devastated with the ending cause we wanted her to go with Sameer. I find it a little experiment now when i show people HDDCS whether they want Vanraj or Sameer at the end - shows a bit of their age and taste in men
Of course now i’m a Vanraj convert so its much easier to see the second half now!
Yes dw007, that first half is silly and Salman running around shirtless. What’s up with that? When I saw “Sawaariya” and Ranbir was running around nearly naked, I wondered about Bhansali and why he directed his lead actors to be shirtless. I suppose it’s to show that the guys are sexy and carefree, but it came off as goofy to me in both those films. Anyway, I wanted Nandini to be with Sameer, but he was too wacky…until he trudged off into the desert with a broken dil, and that song started, THEN I LOVED HIM! But I’m fickle and he got so wacky again in “Italy” (it was really Prague, right?) that compared to Vanraj’s heartfelt and selfless love, he just didn’t measure up. Watch that church scene again, and you will vote for Ajay for his moral and spiritual depth! Oh wait, you converted! Really it was a win win for Nandini, and of course you know in HDDCS II Sameer finds his true love.
It wasn’t Prague, it was Budapest. The last scene is the famous Chain Bridge on the Danube, almost a symbol of the city, so it was weird it being supposed to be Italy.
Anyway, songs are lovely, Tadap Tadap has been performed by various talent show singers, by a scared and nervous and very humble Poonam; with Salman Khan himself encouraging her

and Irfan had a more than decent go at it in SVOI (he has such a unique voice)

and the other gem from the movie, i.e. the title song, was totally nailed by Anwesha in chhote ustaad

Vay bebo! Thanks for the video links. Love the song and all the versions you added. I adore Anwesha. I also like seeing her poker faced mother in the audience, always looking so stoic. If Anwesha were my daughter I’d be hysterically crying at her talent.
I remember getting hung up on that point for a while in the movie, “But this is NOT Italy!” LOL
I thought Budapest was just another name for Prague.
